Quantum position verification and attacks by nonlocal computation

Investigate how separated adversaries use entanglement and nonlocal computation to challenge location-based authentication.

QiskitQuantum circuitsResource analysis

The question

Can two-qubit nonlocal protocols be simplified or implemented with fewer entanglement and computational resources?

Why it matters

In quantum position verification, remote verifiers use quantum challenges and response timing to test a claimed location. Coordinating adversaries may use shared entanglement to impersonate a legitimate prover. Understanding their capabilities helps clarify the security assumptions.

What you could investigate

  1. Study existing constructions for two-qubit gates and measurements in quantum nonlocal computation.
  2. Analyze their resource requirements and explore simplifications or reductions in entanglement cost.
  3. Use Qiskit simulations to compare errors and time delays; explore three-qubit or multi-qubit extensions when feasible.

What you could create

  • An analysis of a nonlocal protocol and its resource costs
  • Reproducible circuit simulations
  • A comparison of constructions and possible extensions
